About Nomad Flipper

WORDS FROM KATHLEEN

Hello! My name is Kathleen Syron and I'm the Nomad Designer. My interest in design stems from decades spent traveling the globe working for hollywood studios. It was hard work but also allowed me to visit amazing places and learn about different cultures and their architecture and design aesthetic. I moved to a different country every two years for over 2 decades. At each move I would spend the first 6 months "setting up house" which was always an adventure. This process helped me get to know my new city and gave me a creative outlet to balance out my finance heavy career. No two countries are alike and finding just the right elements to make me feel at home usually entailed many months scouring the city and meeting with different designers and tradesmen. I would always combine simple americana (mid-century modernism) with local  characteristics.

I started my travels in the mid 1980s in Beijing, China. Resources were scarce and what I could find did not resemble anything western. I fell in love with blue and white Chinese ceramics, peasant paintings and calligraphy. I also learned how to work with craftsmen to have furniture pieces custom made or altered to my specifications. It was the beginning of a hobby created from neccessity. And I loved every minute of it. Since then I haved lived in almost every major city in Asia (Tokyo, Taipei, HK, Mumbai, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Manila). I also traveled extensively throughout China, Indonesia, and Vietnam on educational design and shopping trips. I also moved on to Europe (London, Paris and Amsterdam), as well as Argentina. It was extremely exciting to arrive in a new place and visit, markets, antique shops and roadside stalls in search of just the right element. I learned so much but never considered it a career until friends started to ask me to help them with their homes. As I progressed in my career I became an independent consultant so I could have more time to spend on design initiatives. Several years ago I took the big step to walk away from my career and attend UCLA school for Interior Architecture and Design.  It was a great opportunity to fine tune my design communication skills and generally increase my knowledge of resources and different designers. I now own "Nomad Flipper" and "Nomad Designs" which highlight my vast knowledge of worldwide design and my willingness to work anywhere.

As the Nomad Flipper I am always looking above and beyond for interesting design projects that make business sense, no matter where that takes me. I like to use the power of design to transform any space (including rentals and temporary abodes)  into a stunning home. As an experienced business executive I make sure all projects are financially successful. I work on my own flips, other peoples flips, and design projects for clients. My design style differs depending on the project. For most flips I like to keep it simple with the use of nuetrals and clean lines. Most home buyers value a finished move in ready home that is more of a blank slate that they can style. Most of my design clients appreciate how I work with their own style and existing pieces with a global influence.

So no matter where you are and no matter your style please get in touch to find out more about how we can work together.
